V288/FV308 PCV Install (Best4x4 Mod)
I really can't explain it any simpler
1. Plastic nipple at intake = removed
2. FV308 is installed where the plastic nipple was removed.
3. On 99-02 D2 follow hose to valve cover & remove OEM plastic baffle via a wood screw or if your lucky a pair of need nose pliers.
4. Reconnect hose at both ends = Job Done
5. If you have an 03-04 D2 you must remove the entire enclosed nipple from the valve cover itself to gain access to the OEM baffle. Get a pair of pliers and gently grab it and twist. It should break free & spin. Then as you spin it pull up and the entire nipple will come off the valve cover. However you choose to do it = entirely up to you, but 2 things must happen. #1 OEM baffle must be removed. You can use a drill bit & punch it out from the small hole, or drill the baffle out. #2 the end with the tiny hole must be enlarged. You can cut off about 4mm to open it up, or drill out the hole to at least 5/16. Then re-install hose at both ends = Job Done.
I can't honestly describe it any better or simpler. Takes maybe 5-15 minutes depending on your skill set.

ok i understand now! this is what i was thinking but the mixup on nipple and tube were throwing me... the metal tube in the valve cover containing the baffle is the nipple for a hose that will be over it... pull that off to expose the PCV tube ( nipple) going to do it tomorrow before work! "
Thanks!
Thanks!
well for me it was a real PITA ... the pipe nipple thing is conveniently paced where no tool can fit on it i was able to get it out quite easily with pliers coming form front of engine over valve cover to grip but every place you put piers or whatever to grab it.. an SAI breather tube is in the way so you cant easily grip it.. i came over top and fortunately mine wasn't tight enough to be an issue but used my hands once it started wigglin and it slipped out. clogged up with 135k miles of crap... now... NEXT one I will not be drilling it all the way open... as this made it very difficult to put back in... matter of fact its still wigglin slightly and since NO hammer or tool in existence can access it with SAI crap all tightly made so there is not direct access at that angle.. i bent it up slightly... maybe I should have warmed engine first.. anyway.. its really working good.. but... I want a new metal sleeve for it... where can I locate one? whats it called? now Im considering removing ALL the SAI stuff and blocking off the SAI head pipes... what a contraption! anyway... Id like to find another nipple sleeve plug tube thing... lol anyone know where Id get one? id prefer going with the old one so not to endue this again lol
not to mention taking off the factory clip sucked too lol but I got it..took total to do the repair half hr because of trouble getting TO it
actually I was quite happy with repair until i tried to find an access point to tap it back in strait... its slightly nookered up and bent so not a super tight fit but didnt come out... i need see if any blowby has occurred today but being is vacumed up the intatke maybe its super low pressure there but still dont want anything to get in there like... water

Like mentioned in another thread and by several other members using a 3/8 extension with a 13mm socket makes it easy to tap the tube back into position. You'll get a few good taps in before you feel it bottom out in the valve cover. Then you are done. I would certainly toss the OEM hose clamp and go with a normal SS Hose clamp.
yeah I did the 13mm but i could not get the right angle there was just hoses in the way but i got close.. i tapped once nothing happened.. tried again a little harder and it bent the edge... i may have reamed it out too thin... but it never would go in far.. maybe heating up engine a little could have helped .. I removed that cheap plastic sai pipe and it conveniently broke in half so its now taped up with electrical tape too
You can repair the SAI line that goes from the SAI pump to the SAI pipes with some 3/4 heater hose. Save the end with the special connector (pump side) If possible leave 3inches of tube/pipe on the special connector side. Then cut it nice and clean. Then lube the 3/4 heater hose with say some WD40 and twist it onto the tube/pipe piece you saved. Use a hose clamp to secure it, then route the 3/4 hose to the aluminum SAI pipe so it doesn't have any kinks in it, cut it, and once again secure it via a hose clamp. $150.00 OEM SAI hose replaced for 7.00 worth of 3/4 heater hose.
BMW added a lot of their lovely plastics to the mix. Although I've seen plenty of other automakers have horrible plastic. The famous 96 and up Dodge Pickup dash quickly comes to mind! Things rotted out and fell apart before it had 100K on it.
I remember 1985 hondas and mercedes also had so many vacuum lines and no specific marking for any of them so it was a crapshoot looking for vacuum leaks... not plastic but was terrible and reminded me of this... these landys are such a strong great and admired vehicle , to us, and so many little stupid plastic parts... lol overall though with this forum and wealth of knowledge, you can keep em running all day lol mine is a daily driver for 10 years and even something this simple.. it runs like its a new engine... 135k at moment... i do have a few gremlins like when i turn on my bright lights my whipers turn on and at night my BRAKE light on dash and 3 amigos comes on lol oh and if I turn on a/c it drains my battery hahaha other than that... lol its a landy!
