Definitely I would hope be in the 80% (with a manual transmission!).
There must be a few of them lost somewhere in North America.
I'm patient. I'll get one.

I'd take a diesel with a manual trans any day. We need a good conversion kit...

Count me in with the TD5 and 5-speed, I'd even take it with a autobox.

I would take diesel over the petrol any chance I could. I do not worry about top end speed. the milage advantage, the low range torque etc.. if only the US and its absurd rules would allow..

Diesel in the uk is around £6 a gal that works out at $9.33 and petrol is around £5.50 a gal about $8.50, it really is ridiculous, we buy and sell used land rovers and land rover parts in the uk, you can buy a good TD5 engine off ebay over here for about £1,200 but ime not sure what kind of job it would be to convert from V8 to TD5 but ime sure it could be done

If I had a choice between a TD5 and a V8 I'd choose the TD5.
But I'd much rather have a 300Tdi or 200Tdi.

I agree the 200 and 300 are great engines but the TD5 is proven to be a good land rover engine and you just cant beat that 5 cylinder sound

Cummins 4BT would be perfect if I could get some sort of "inspection sticker doner friend", same power output, and would last until Land Rover is bought and sold 6 more times and goes under.

See the problem with doing the diesel conversion here in the US is that once you buy the engine, adapter plate, all of the accileries and the like and then do all of the work you are into the project for about $10,000USD.
Now add that diesel is more expensive here than petrol.
Yes you will almost double your MPG but with premium petrol currently around $3.50 per gal and diesel is about $4.00 per gal.
So the diesel conversion is about 3 years worth of normal driving with the current price of petrol.
Not to mention a person will never recoup the cost of the conversion.
Also something we have to consider is that in some states they do emissions testing and when they do that they go by the VIN#, and if the engine does not match what the VIN# says it is supposed to have you will fail the emissions test and then you cannot drive it.
