Default Vacuum leak?

Hi everybody.

I am getting p0171 and p0174 - lean on both banks. I think I have figured out my new scanner enough to see that the O2's and MAF are working right. After a lot of Googling, I think I may have a vacuum leak now. One other thing that leads me in this direction is my cruise contol seems to surge and coast, surge and coast.

Does this sound about right? If so, are there any known "typical" spots to find vacuum leaks on Discos? I just had the head gaskets done by a shop about 2K ago and they say they replaced the intake and exhaust gaskets. I need to go looking for this to eliminate it in my quest to drive without a check engine light. It's just slightly annoying as heck.

Thank you.

2001 DII, 102K, 60K overhaul complete. Premium gas only. Magnacor 8mm w/Bosch Plat 4's. 1 can Seafoam induction cleaning and 1 can in gas tank about 1K ago.

Start by checking your filter box, MAF o-ring on up thru the intake.
Do you have a friend with a D2, if so swap MAF units and clear the codes to verify if your MAF really is good.

OK. I was thinking that to Mike. This might be a stupid question, but could I use electrical tape on all those connections from the filter box to the intake to temporarily check to see if that is where the problem is? I think I remember thinking that there might be a problem there when I was doing the induction cleaning. I don't remember seeing any o-rings.

As for the friend with a D2 in Toledo? I think I have the only D2 in Toledo. I saw one RR but that is it. They make Jeeps here and it is almost dangerous to drive anything else. No...it is dangerous. I get the bird by the hour and at least one nasty comment a day.

Cool

just a thought...........there have been a couple of post here lately from guys who have "recently" had their head gaskets done and now are seeing some idling issues and some cel codes......as it turned out...the intake manifold bolts had loosened to allow an air leak....it might be worth a look
