Default Valley Pan Gasket & RTV sealant

99 Disco II, 133k miles.
Hi all, I'm putting engine back together after installing head gaskets and have a question about the Valley Pan gasket. Rave CD says to "Apply RTV sealant to cylinder head and cylinder block notches". Reason I was wondering is because there was no sign of RTV on the old gasket, except for the rubber end seals. Did someone not do it right before?

Where exactly to put/not putRTV? Thanks!

They did it right. I believe they are saying to apply a dab ofsealant in that notch between the block and head only where the ends of the rubber endgaskets fit in. The gasket alone would never be able to fill the gap left there. Make sure that the wedge at the end of the rubber gasket fits into that notchso the gasketstill lays flat on the end of the block. I had one notch that was smaller for some reason and the seal got pushed out of that notch when I tightened the intake back on. I had to take everything off again and trim the end of the seal so that it lay in there better. I also put a thin coat of sealant along the top of the rubber gasket, layingit a little thicker where it meets the headas well for good measure. Everything is holding together good now.
