Valuation -- what do I have (trim level??)
I bought a used Discovery a year ago. The VIN is SALLJGMM8XA563886. It is clearly a series I Discovery, but was made in 1999, perhaps one of the last of its kind. It has 7 seats (manually adjusted), front/rear air conditioning, a CD player, vinyl and fabric seats, sun roofs (manual crank), a 3.9 liter V8. I'm trying to value it for re-sale, but am not able to properly identify it (Parkers does not even have a listing for a 1999 series I Discovery!) and I don't know the year type (1999-S or 1999-T??) or the trim level (is it S, GS, ES or XS ??). I've looked all around and can find no definite info on the year type or trim level designations. I've run the VIN thru the calVIN calculator at at www.clifton.nl, but it does not answer these questions....Any experts out there who know what these codes mean? Thanks...
are you sure thats the right VIN? according to the VIN decoder in my rovers north catalouge, it doesnt even have the model year digit, i could go on. do you think its possible that there may have been stolen at one point?
Yes, I'm sure it's right. I'm also sure it's not stolen -- I bought from original owner and I have the sales dox. The "X" is the model year -- which means it is a 1999 according to 2 different VIN decoders I've looked at www.clifton.nl/calvin.html; http://www.amsoil.com/products/vin_code_lookup.pdf.
I don't know what Rovers North problem is, but they seem to be one of those that do not seem to acknowledge the existence of 1999 Disco I's (just like Parkers).
You said you "could go on" -- am I missing something here?

the numbers do not add up on your vin.. maybe you should put pictures up on the site, and we should be able to advise better.
i.e might be able to identify the trim level for you...

Thanks for responding. I'm attaching a few pictures. On the VIN issue, I checked the website you mentioned -- the VIN checks out fine. I'm not sure why you would say it does not add up?
number of doors, should be five door disco.. but thinking about it, yours may have built as a commercial version in the factory and the converted by the factory to meet demand. commercials in 1999 were still series 1's.. hence the confusion with the vin, and why you can't sort the trim level..
