Default Lancing the Tranny?

I did not know about the lancing. Sounds exciting. So does the front propshaft fall off and hit the ground and get driven up through the transmission?

Go to Amazon. I just bought one through them from a company called DrillSpot: Westward 1EZV7 Socket, 1/4 In Dr, 12 Point, 8mm, 2 In L. The piece comes from Graingers so you will have it in two days. Seems like alot for a little socket but these days you'll save that in gas trying to find one locally.

Just curious here, if the valve covers still leak after tightening the bolts, what brand of gasket is the pro's choice for this application?

I've always used OE valve cover gaskets. I thought about trying some of the aftermarket brands, but with the amount of work taking the upper intake off to replace the valve cover gaskets, I didn't want to find out they were poor gaskets and have to do it again.

any gasket with a thin coat of black RTV and they will never leak again.

Yeah the 12 point sockets are sometimes impossible to find. I replaced the d1 with hex head bolts as it gives you a little more room. My D2 is leaking and wouldn't you know, I lost the famous socket. I intend to replace these as well with hex, if I can ever get them out. Maybe I'll just wait for them to fall out.

i am looking into a 2004 discovery w/ 44k on it and i was told that i should replace the head gasket... going by this thread it seems like i don't have to and may get away by torquing down the bolts. considering the age of the vehicle my plans to keep it indefinitely and use on road trips should i just do it to get it out of the way or am i simply throwing money away?
