I want to keep this short and to the point, as my day has sucked the proverbial big one.

I have a 99 Discovery series 1

My tachometer is twitching, rather badly. But still somewhat accurate.
It takes it's sweet time just getting to 30 miles an hour, and it will not go above 60 mpg
And my check engine light is on. Which it has been on for about a month and a half now.
My Rover has around 85 thousand miles on it.

Please help I guess.

 

welcome Orion, sorry to hear of your problems, but you will have to find a garage which can read the error codes and cancel them on your ECU. When your engine check light is on, the ECU is running in safe mode generally, which is why you are not getting much performance out of it. This is designed to give you a chance to get the vehicle home or to a garage without causing more damage than you have to. The fact you have been running for a month does not bode well, as without knowing if your are getting any extra noises from the engine, or smokey etc, it would be hard to guess at what could be wrong.

Even if you fix what is wrong, you will still have to get the error codes cancelled.

 

The enginge sounds fine.
