Default Vehicle won't go out of park sometimes

Recently it won't go out of park randomly. More often after already driving. Normally I can here a click sound after pressing the brake and I'm guessing that unlocks the shifter. But whenever it won't go out of park I don't hear the noise when pressing the brake. Any ideas?

Brake switch? Do your brake lights go on and off?

So brake lights flashed then stopped working. Ordered a brake switch.

Pressing the brake pedal it's supposed to close a circuit in the brake light switch, signaling the BCU. The BCU then closes the circuit to release the solenoid in the shifter that allows the shifter be shifted out of Park.

Sounds like you are on the right track.

Obnoxious little bugger to swap out but not difficult just awkward positioning. I went through a couple of switches before I found one that worked more than a month or two a few years ago..just a heads up that part quality might be lacking on those.

Well just got home and swapped it out with the new one. So far so good. Even makes a nice clicking sound that the old one didn't make haha
