Default Very Poor MPG?

I have very bad mpg for some reason in my 2000 Land Rover Disco 2. I just bought it and I'm probably getting around 7 mpg. It has a roof rack and mud tires, but I didn't think either of these would make it that bad. Does anyone have any idea what the case might be? Thanks!

My Guard Dogs cause poor MpG. I'm finding the roof rack not to be too much of a problem.

I get about 13 with the rack.if I switch from my summer tyres to the knobblies it drops to about 10-11.

Discount gas of an octane ( Costco, Sam's Club and grocery store chain gas) can cause this. Did you buy fuel from any of these retailers? I filled up with discount grocery store high octane gas ( Kroger) one r and it was as if I had a hole in my tank. Got the same kind of milage you are experiencing. And it's not just rovers that don't like the cheap stuff, my wife recently filled up at Kroger using her points ($1.58 gl) and Her milage went from around 25-30 to 15-18.

Mud tires will definitely make a big impact. I'd second the notion to replace O2s if they haven't been done and a general engine tune up always helps a little bit too.
