Default Vibration

I had an engine miss and check engine light. Replaced plug and wires, missed went away and light went out (after clearing codes). But I have a vibration when under load. When I run rpm’s up in park or in drive with brake on no vibration. When I go down the road at a steady speed it’s smooth. I think it maybe a U-joint. Does this sound like a good guess?

year and mileage? If it is a D2, get the front shaft rebuilt ASAP! It can break loose, slapping out your tranny to the tune of $7000

Have you crawled under and inspected your u-joints, how long since they have been greased?

I just got the truck, so I don't know how long. I'll check them and grease them in the morning.

An when you say rebuild the front drive shaft do you meen new u-joins or is there more to it?

Sorry it's a 2000 with 109,000. I did have a bad u-joint on the front driveshaft. I replaced all three. the two at the transfercase were a lot harder then I thought it was going to be.

Three U-joints from NAPA $60.00
one tube quality grease $5.00
most of the day to do the job $?.
Being told what the problem was PRICELESS!!

That was why I was asking, The 99& up D2's have a double cardan joint in the front shaft. They can be a pain if you aren't used to the,. Glad you got it before it failed. They can slap a tranny out quick....

Help! We recently bought a very nice 1999 Disco II (85kmiles). The vehicle has run great for us for the last 6 months with exception of a head gasket job that was covered under warranty. About a week ago the Service Engine light came on briefly and I noticed a steady vibration only when driving up the steep hill to my house. I've been reading through the forums and was curious if you could help me...I think it might be the U-joint but it only vibrates when going up hill. Occasionally there is a clicking noise that is associated with the vibration. If it is the u-joints will this be a spendy job? Of course the warranty expired three weeks ago! Murphy's Law! Thanks!

You did not replace the center ball joint when rebuilding the double cardon, it will fail soon unless that is done.
