VIN Decoder

VIN Decoder
I tried the VIN decoder on this site earlier on today - it said that my D2 VIN was incorrect. Well, it isn't incorrect so the VIN Decoder must be faulty.
Anyway, this one worked: Land Rover Series Resources
and this one: Clifton Scientific Text Services, the Netherlands
and this pages explains it all for all LRs. Decoding your Land Rover VIN Number
Anwyay, they all confirm that my 2003 D2 was built with a 4L engine but the engine number on the block tells me that it now has a 4.6. I'm not complaining

Only NAS got 4.6 as far as I know. Talking to the guys in the aulro, I know the Australians never got the 4.6 except in the P38.

UAE was possibly different. A lot of stuff here is odd "run out special" or "previous year's leftovers" stuff.
For example, the VIN says 2003 but I have a CDL (no linkage). The 4.6 engine in mine is definitely a later installation as the original was replaced under warranty within the first year.

SALLTGM343A793801 - am I right in thinking that the US market VIn indicates the model year differently from the rest of the world?
It decodes as:
SAL: Europe, UK, Landrover
LT: Discovery II
G: 100" wheelbase
M: 5 door bodyshell
3: 4L engine
4: 4 speed ZF transmission
3: 2003 model year
A: Solihull built
793801: serial number
