Default Viscous fan

I have a question about the viscous fan on my 2000 D2. When the car is cold, I can only spin it about 3 inches. When the D2 is at operating temp, I can stop the fan with my hand. Just wondering if this is normal? Please advise.

And that is not a safe shop practice, you don't want to be known as "Stubby". When truck is warmed up, stop engine. Spin fan by hand, release. If it coasts more than one revolution, another sign that it is bad. Has lost the silicone fluid inside that does the coupling, at idle hot might be only 20% power coupling.

Mine was sooo wimpy when AC condenser fan turned on, which PO had wired backwards, the main rad fan would stop at idle. Guess he could never figure out why it overheated at idle.....

Time to replace it and luckily not your fingers.
