Default Volume of Oil

'03 Disco, about 43K miles.

I'm running a KN 3001 filter. About how much oil should I be talking, I'm measuring about 6.25 qts. That sound about right to everyone. I'm changing about every 3K miles. Owned it from 36.5K miles.

I'm pretty sure the manual says for oil changes it is 6.1quarts, but like 6.5 from a dry engine. I guess dry means rebuilt or new?

Sounds about right, I'm usually right around 6 quarts but I've used stock sized filters to this point. The 3001 K&N is about twice as big, and I assume displaces a bit more oil.

I use a 3001 filter also and when I fill to the full mark on the dip stick I use about the same amount.

I guess the ½ qt extra would depend on if you "prime" your oil filter (pour in a bit of oil)or not before installing? I'd strongly recomend filling the filter about ½ full of oil before installing.

I did. I didn't want to dump it all over me when installing but I'd say it was about half full when I screwed the filter in. It was actually 5.5 qts on oil and one qt of Lucas.

It's the first time I ever heard of that!?!? Interesting!

Is this something you do for a purpose??? just for the heck of it??? or its been proven to do something positive???
