Default Warning about the Atlantic-British D2 Rear Ladder

A bit of a warning about the Atlantic British D2 rear ladder kit. While the ladder itself is fine the kit advertised is not the same as the one shipped. The one they ship requires an insert rivet gun and inserts and bolts, about $25.00 in total for a cheap one, bringing the total cost of the aftermarket ladder to about that of the original Land Rover part. I asked AB to refund the cost of the tool, considering their own instructions show it being installed with simple tools (screwdriver), and the cost to return it would have been about the same. No reply. The ladder looks fine etc. but if you want one just buy the OEM part and save yourself the hassle.

You can just use sheet metal screws. They only keep the ladder in place. The screws don't support any weight. The Riv-nuts/bolts are optional.

Correct - but this isn't what they sell or how it is advertised. If you follow the instructions they provide you end up with four 7mm holes, which are too big to run a sheet metal screw through without also enlarging the hole in the ladder.

This goes to quality control, I bet they have no idea what Britparts is putting in those boxes.

So, you read the indestructions first? I always thought, as a man, you only read them after all else fails and you dig them out of the trash..

I know - weird isn't it? Mainly for alignment guidance. The rivets actually make good sense and I wouldn't have had issue with it had it been advertised this way.

In their defense they reached out today:

- Acknowledged the issue and are updating the listing and instructional video
- Credited me the cost of the tool

They certainly kept a customer.
