Default Water Leak Problem

Firstly I want to say this forum has been a huge help with problems I've had, so thanks to all!

Ok, woke to a horrible sight this morning, sat in my disco 2 and water was coming in above the window pillar on the driver side ( photos attached ), the headliner was coming apart.

I will investigate tomorrow but wanted to see if anyone had any issues like this? Perhaps it's the sills on the roof?

Anyway, thanks in advance.

I've been googling the sunroof drains and it seems to be a popular problem, would I be correct in saying removal of the headliner to see the drain tubes is a must? Thanks for the support

yes. you need to remove the headliner. I've got the same problem. Headliner is out right now.

Sunroof drain corner plastic bits either a, snapped at the hose connection or b, clogged with something, c, sealant has given up (my issue).

Either way, it's a journey into removing the headliner. It isn't that bad. Looks like your taking half to truck to bits when you do it though. Be careful not to snap the sun visor clips when they come off.

The rest is just screw, clips etc. You can get away with doing the front half, the liner drops down, you can inspect the drains.

When it dries out again, it stops looking that bad.

Prob a silly question, but I have my front sunroof sealed and the edges covered with duct tape, surely water can't get in to the drains? Do you know exact location of drain holes on sunroof I'm pretty sure I have them covered so I'm thinking my seals on the windscreen are the issue?

Just behind the gutter corner trim just at the corner of the screen where the gutter meets the 'A' pillar inner and outer skins, roof and inner top of the side panels all the panels are meant to be sealed against water ingress, but in many cases this was missed of badly executed.

Remove the 'A' pillar trim and corner section of the gutter. examine the panels where they met in the corner of the screen and you will likely find a hole or loose filler. Clean away all the old filler you can get out and degrease the area ready for fresh sealer. I would not recommend a silicon based filler as they do not adhere for long. When I did mine I got a tube of car body sealer from my motor factor shop.

It is likely that you will also find rust in the area that you must clean and treat properly to affect a good repair. You will also find that water will have traveled down inside the 'A' pillar and could have started to rot the metal in the scuttle below the screen just where the 'A' pillar passes the fender and bonnet hinge also check for water ingress behind the fuse box and connection by passenger kick panel.

Looks like you'll need a new head lining too.
