Thanks guys for all the advice.

I got a few parts on order & I'm hoping for nice weather next week. Here is what's coming:

Fan Clutch & new fan (old one was damaged a bit in it's last tangle with the belt)
New water pump
New plug wires (I did the plugs recently, but the wires probably need done too)
(2) front o2 sensors - I got lucky and picked these up on eBay. (2) new sealed AB sensors for $18.50 shipped! Happen to be in the right place at the right time to bid.

Since I paid about $100 less for the o2 sensors than I'd planned, I treated myself to an Ultragauge. I've been wanting one of those for a while *Disco nerd chick*

Yep. Go with Mike's large Impeller Airtex.
Will help cooling at idle.

I put a Hayden heavy duty fan clutch on my - old rotting water pump which has
100,000 miles on it.

no bad vibs (pun intended) yet.

New clutch is like $60 (Chevy 2000 Express van, 4.3 liter, w/o AC). Used clutch from boneyard is like $15 (similary year Chevy / GMC - six inch reverse rotation same WP thread)
Thank you for the analogy. It makes perfect sense to me now. I replaced the water pump & also replaced the fan & clutch this time around. My truck hasn't run this smooth in at least two years. I have had a small shudder at idle & in general it just "felt" rough. No more. THANK YOU!

Im going to look into this too... Since ive owned disco and replaced all the pulleys and cant isolate one pully but I hear multiple whining on startup and just in general... Its light but I can hear it... I isolated it with a tube and stethiscope for engines and just cant pinpoint anything...

Also.. is it possible I put the wrong belt on that could cause this? it seemed to go on ok... was pretty tight but fit... I got it here at a Bennet Auto Supply and it is a gatorback.... it seemed to be more whiny after I put it on or just didnt make a difference but was time to be changed...and when I replaced the pulleys the originals seemed ok but I upgraded to the non plastic ones about 1 year ago just for maintenance...
