I realize you are out of town, you would better off buying a water pump on line from British Parts of Utah or Atlantic British where you can buy a good Air Tex pump. Most of the auto parts stores sell a cheaper quality pump.
On how to replace the pump, down load a free copy of a Rave CD, shop manual and follow their directions.
As for tools, the biggest problem is finding the 2 wrenches needed to remove the fan assembly and a new belt.
Past that a good socket set, pliars to remove the hose clamps and any other parts you notice as you work on it.
Do you know how to bleed the coolant system when done?

10 mm, if they don't have a gasket RTV blue will work. Stores may rent the wrench to grab the fan clutch to pump connection, or a crescent wrench will do, once on there you have to stuff rags in belt path or pull on tensioner (increase tension); then slap the wrench with hammer toward your left when facing the motor. Sharp and hard, like you would like to pop that bonehead that cut you off the other day. Boneyards may have Rovers, D1, D2, have same pump. Agree with DM that better pumps are out there, but vacation adventures can't wait.

Yeah, this is the second time i've replaced the pump in a year. But, i don't have a choice. It just went and i've got two days to replace to get home. And i'm working while i'm here. Not much time.
Thanks for the tool list. That's pretty much what i remember. do you know what size the wrenches needed for the fan assembly?
Yes i know how to bleed the coolant system. Thanks again.

36mm
If you use one of the 'rental' tools from a auto parts store, make sure you double check the size (ask them to use a tape measure). Every single fan clutch wrench I've borrowed/rented from a parts store has been worn or stretched. (I've been told that some Fords also use a 36mm fan clutch nut, so the tools get a lot of use.)
A crescent wrench is another good option as noted above, and it may save you some time over having to return tools when your away from home.

Thanks for all the help. Got it done. Found a big adjustable wrench and whacked it with a rubber mallet. Now, my next question is...
This is the second time in a year that i've replaced the water pump. Obviously, i could have just bought a crappy pump the first time. It looks like my fan has a few notches cut out of it. 3 different blades have notches about 1"x2" cut out. Could this be the reason the pumps are going bad?
