Default Water Temp. gauge reading

My temp. gauge on my Disco 11 has for ages reached about ¼ reading and then taken about another 15mins to reach the ½ way mark and then stayed there and I assume this was normal. For the last couple of days it has reached the ¼ mark and stayed there, is this a sign of things going wrong....appreciate help as always

Hi Redwhitekat, No don't have a ultraguage and temp guage does not indicate temp but coolant level is where it should be

The dashboard gauge really doesn't tell you anything useful. It's largely inaccurate and approximate, so a change in behaviour like that could easily mean nothing at all, or it could be the result of some major catastrophe that could be about to/already has ruined your engine. Any OBD reader should be able to give you an accurate coolant temperature, but an Ultragauge is one of the preferred dedicated devices for keeping an eye on your system.

D2 gauge = 3 Positions Off, Middle, and off the scale (red light of death). Get an OBD2 Bluetooth, Ultragauge, or Scangauge II to monitor the actual engine temps.

All though it is very rare, it is possible you have a thermostat that is stuck open. It is also possible you have a bad temp sensor. You need an ultragauge stat.
