Default Well, I found something in my transmission pan

I cant take a picture of it now. I will in a couple minutes... once my camera recharges.

But its a long thin spring about 5" long about 3/32" thick. Any guesses? Can I replace it my self or does it require the transmission to be pulled and taken apart?

Here is the pic of the spring I found. Not the best pic. As it was taken with my iTouch.

Here's a site with a photo work up of a tear down / re-build, take a look at photos and see if anything looks like it. Chris Cowdery Global Presence

Nope cant see it in any of the pics. Ive also checked the Rave and I dont see it there either.

From the looks of it, it appears to have been there for a while, as it was covered in the dark gunk at the bottom of the pan attached to the magnet.

Dont worry about it then, save it just in case, if you throw it out the world will end, so make sure you put it in your toolbox or something.

I guess I have no other choice. I started to put my pan back on and when I was torqing them down, 12ft-lbs, one of the bolt heads snapped off.
Im sure my torque wrench is no longer accurate... very frustrating

Can't tell from the photo, but was wondering (if such an animal exists in these transmissions) if it could be a spring from a seal.

12 ft-lbs isn't much. Maybe there's enough of the bolt left sticking out from the block to grab it and remove once the oil pan and gasket are out of the way...

Thats why I dont use a torque wrench for such tasks.
Good and snug is all thats needed.
Technically you are supposed to calibrate your torque wrench before each use.

How would I go about calibrating it? Ive never heard of caliberating a torque wrench. I have 3 different ones and never did it... might be useful

I havent taken the pan back off but hopefully there is just enough sticking out. I dont think there is though. I think the torque wrench was inacvcurate as in I put it on 12 but it didnt click so no telling it could have been on 30 for all I know
