I figure it is for rear working lights but I have an aftermarket bumper. If it is for the rear, how do I wire to it?

 

Those are the rear fogs - you can only turn them on with the headlights or parking lights on. There should be a plug back there - on the stock bumper, they plug into the same assembly as either the turn signals or the reverse lights (depending on if you have a 99-02 or 03-04, respectively). I'd be a bit surprised if your bumper doesn't have both lights back there. Do you have a shot of your rear bumper?

Mmmmm maybe not an option then. Thinking about it again, I’m pretty sure there’s just one plug for each side, that feeds into a single housing for both the turn/reverse light and the rear fog.

Probably not worth trying to retrofit. I pretty much only use rear fog lights in heavy snow anyway so you probably won’t miss them in FL.

 

Since it's an 04, it would have red and white lens on the bumper lights, white for reverse and red for fog lights. There should be wiring back there for the fog lights. Dig around in the wiring harness that goes to the back up lights you have now.

 

I was wondering if I could use the button for worklights.

This is a good use of the rear fogs in Jacksonville! Up here in the Pacific Northwest the fog gets super thick so I like having them, but they are pretty rare option on a NAS car, more popular on European models for sure as they are really bright and supposed to be used super sparingly, even less so than the front fogs but American's don't know they exist a lot of the time. I know the new Mini has them so next time you are behind one and getting dazzled by bright red "taillights" that don't turn off as the driver pulls away you'll know its a driver who just has all of the light switches set to "ON" and didn't read the manual.

 

I'm curious how you plan to use the lights you installed today as worklights, since according to the manual they operate only when the front fogs and the headlights are also on.

That said, there are several threads on this and other DII forums from years past about putting a cruise control switch in that position with a fog light cover and manually wiring roof rack or work lights with a simple relay setup. The fog light switches are momentary contact, to close a circuit to the BCU telling it to turn on the fogs. The cruise control switch is a conventional on/off switch, not momentary contact.
