What is this all about?
So, after my D2 suddenly and unexpectedly wouldn't start the other morning, I was at a loss at to what might be wrong with it. I got it towed to the shop. Now I have not been to this "shop" before and don't know these guys too well, but this particular garage came recommended by my friend, a Honda driver (which is not saying much!).
Got a call back today after 2 days in shop, saying that they can't figure out what's wrong with it. They said it has been starting up just fine for them. They've drove it twice. Shut it off, left it overnight, tried again, started up fine again!
So what could have been the problem here? An intermittent issue? A few of you guys from the forum had mentioned possible fuel pump / CSPS issues, or fuse issues. I want to make sure these mechanics are not just giving me back my car after not really looking for the problem, only for it to happen again.

Took your advice and purchased a crank position sensor from Autozone. However, will need to get a few days use from the Landy before I have time to drop it back off at garage again for new CKPS fitting.
Crossing my fingers I can get 2 or 3 days light use from the car without it stranding me.
Picking up the Landy tomorrow morning. Picking up the part tomorrow evening. Then taking it back to garage probably Wednesday or Thursday for CKPS fitting.

Carry some water. If it stops on you you can pour water on it to cool it off and get you home. Chances of failure are high.
Somebody may say you can do the job yourself, and they're right, but honestly that plug is so hard to reach that I'd probably pay a shop to do it for me too. It's just a b*tch to get your hand back there.
I will say though, are you new to these trucks? If you are, you should know that if you don't do most repair and maintenance work, paying a mechanic is going to get expensive quick. They break more than your average car, but at least they're relatively easy to work on.

These are the worst types of issues, because they don't throw error codes and aren't repeatable so they can be diagnosed. Not much you can do except throw parts at it and quite possibly waste a little money. It sounds like you have a decent plan.
I just had the crank sensor replaced but that happened to me only when the engine is hot. After turning the engine off, then it wont start until the engine cools a bit. But since it was morning start up, my situation was the ground connection. Happened to me plenty times because the grounding gets loose because of vibration even jump starting wont do.
Ok, stuck a new battery in it and am currently having the CSPS replaced. I am hoping this fixes everything. Spark plugs are new from a few months back. The only other thing I can think of would be fuel pump? or blown fuses of some kind?
The fact that it's an intermittent problem is quite annoying. It means I never know if I'll be left stranded or not!!!!

Geeks On Cars: How to Diagnose a Fuel Pump Problem on a Land Rover
This might help with fuel pump.
On a D2 the fuel pump only comes on once the CKPS sends a signal to the ECU which then sends a signal to the fuel pump relay/fuel pump. If the CKPS is intermittent the fuel pump won't always come on hence a no start condition.
