One of my pain points is the location of the coils. Making coil or plug wire maintenance very difficult.

Find an HSE, our 03 has sound deadening like no other. You can't hear any road/tire/drivetrain noises...at all.

Pet peeves...

1) window switch location, you have to spread hand like playing Twister to get fingers on all four switches at once.
2) inside door handle location, just stupid, having to reach down that far. I remember when my 8 year old grandson said..."boy, that's a stupid location for a door handle."...lol
3) leg room
4) can't buckle seat belt with arm rest down.
5) ash tray size
6) ash tray size
7) cruise control settings are lame, can't decrease mph incremental amounts.
8) cooling system is insufficient...on so many levels

As far as the mechanical/rusted frame stuff goes, yeah they've got some issues...but...hey...which brand doesn't after 17 years.

I think I'm probably the only person besides maybe a RRC or P38 guy but I flip flop any D1/D2 window switch location. Drives me nuts getting in/out of a RRC/P38 then into a D1/D2 and going WTH.... So make em match.
Front Door Handle location is a bit much on the D2 vs D1, but it keeps the wife from bailing out when I try to take her out on a date.
Leg room = I'm 5ft 8 so I've got plenty of room
Arm Rest = never use em
Ash Tray = never use em
Cruise Control is on par for what a lot of vehicles had around that time = off, on, cancel lol and I honestly don't use it as I'm better at applying throttle than it is on a LR with a cable activated system (newer electronic TB setups are much much much smoother)
Engine Cooling is weak due to such a small grill opening and radiator surface. Interior HVAC = it's like a glass green house and I haven't been in a cold green house yet. Insulation above the headliner and on the floor does help.

My only real issues are the black plastic stock OEM rocker panels. Everyone that ever gets in my LR for the first time will put all their weight on them!!!! I look like a fool in slow motion going NOOOOOOOOooooooooo!!!!! Thank goodness 2 out of 5 have steel rocker guards.
D2 without a transmission dipstick = stupid, thank goodness a D1 setup can work if you can find one.
Exterior Plastic being made out of peanut brittle in TX

That about covers it for me, out of all the 4x4's I've owned a RRC/D1/D2 are still my favorites. The Mitsubishi Gen 1 Montero's were awesome, and I really enjoyed my Hummer H3's but both of those also had things that we're all that great as well lol.
If and when my Kalahari 4.0L engine finally gives up the ghost I want to do an 4.8L LS swap and keep it until the digital Odometer rolls over!

#1 thing for me is the crappy plastic materials - cowl, a pillar, c pillar, bumpers, fender flares, radiator, coolant tank, coolant lines, Sai lines, all of it. I fantasize about tracking down the JLR/BMW engineer and his boss on LinkedIn who approved those materials, traveling to their location, and whipping their *** for about an hour. Then publicly shaming them on LinkedIn so they never get another job in the automotive industry.

I'm 6'3, north of 220lbs, so when I'm in the saddle, my left shoulder is touching the b-pillar. And when I get in, I have to fold my right leg a bit so it'll fit under the steering wheel.

The biggest problem with the Discovery II is that it's just too good looking.
