Are they 'avin a 'larf' at that price I think there's one nought too many on the price. With that sort of mileage and year even a TD5 in the UK wouldn't fetch £2K in tip top condition. I'd be hard pressed to sell my LHD 2003 TD5 ES7 one owner in good condition with 123K and well sorted for much different than £5K. That ads a 'try on'.

Well, 2k in the UK is 5000gs here. Then u have to ship it it over. What does that cost?
We cant get diesels over here.

I could buy a top hat lined engine for 7000. Then install it. Be close to 8000 when Im done and still getting 17mpg.

Or, spend 14000 and get 30mpg.

How long do TD5s last?

General rule is it will be pretty much be $5000 give or take, to import a car from England to your door in Canada. so ad that to the UK price.

Why not buy the motor and trans from England and install yourself?

I used to import Alfa Romeo motors from Italy and I would get three on a pallet. Cost me approx 800 with shipping and fees per pallet.

Do 2 set ups and sell the second for a profit.

Many ship US cars to the UK for about £1k or so.

You'll have to drive carefully to achieve 30mpg (imperial) from a TD5 ............... no hard acceleration and average speed of say 50mph. I reckon on 28/29 mpg (imperial gallons).

A well serviced TD5 engine will last 10-15 years+ or around 200K miles+ without serious problems some have seen 250K on the engines. It needs careful regular servicing and oil changes including filters at 10K max. The rest of the drivetrain is the same as the V8's and requires good regular servicing.

Mine has a decat pipe, no EGR and a straight through centre exhaust pipe - i.e. no main silencer and runs very well at 123K miles and 11+ years old but I doubt that would be acceptable in the US or Canada and defo not in the UK. In France it's a bit of 'do as you likey', but don't get caught. I reckon I've spent no more than £3-4K during it's lifespan from new and the early days it was main dealer serviced and repaired. These days I do everything myself it's just the cost of parts, shipping and tools (French garages are rubbish quality, slow and very, very expensive). I never skimp on buying tools - it's a fetish of mine almost but I save a fortune on garage bills.
