I was driving today and notice the light mid way on the left side of the dash above the temp gauge on. It was red and looked like four wheels (frame of the car) with a circled X in the middle. What does it mean?? It was only on for about 5 mins and has not come on since but would like to know whats coming my way as far as maintanence.

 

What year is your truck? Sounds like the warning light for a CDL t/case.

I thought that was the brake light. Mine turns on only when I hit the brakes. With no lights coming on.

 

You should never have a warning light come on when braking, exactly what light is it that comes on?

 

If your brake warning light comes on when you brake it is because you are low on fluid. And you are low on fluid either because of a leak or most likely your pads are WAY thin.

If ANY red light comes on on the dash it is a warning light, if it flashes you are on the verge of self destructing and unless you are being chased by a mad man with a ax you need to STOP DRIVING!

 

The light that is coming on is the Differential lock warning light. It comes one whenever I hit the brakes. Even if I'm not moving. It comes on the second I hit the pedal (even if I only press it a quarter inch) I have no brakes lights at all. My regular taillights are working though.

Not sure. You'll have better luck if you post in the freelander section instead of the discovery section. You'll also want to list specifics about your truck, such as the year and maybe how many miles it has.
