OOps, forgot to give a little explanation. It is on the right hand side, passenger side in US, it whirs real loud for a couple of minutes when I start the disco. It appears to have broke off the rubber isolators.

That is the SAI (secondary air injection) pump. Your bests bet to fix it cheap are:

1) get zip ties to hold it back in place.

2) find a used one off ebay or a junk yard. (EBay $90- Land Rover Discovery 2 II 99 04 Secondary Air Injection Pump Sai 589043148707 | eBay

find the rubber replacements. it is much louder if you just use something to bolt it straight back in its place. the rubber really helps dull the sound and vibration from it. i got replacements from grainger.com for about 1/3 the price they sell at atlantic british and they work great. as for the SAI, are you sure it is broken? if it's making a lot of noise, open it up and see what the filter looks like. if it's clean, and making lots of noise, but not throwing any codes, probably just working fine.

pump isn't broken, i was just referring to the rubber isolators, thanks for the link for the repair part.
