Default What new battery? Also, alternator issues?

I have a 2000 Discovery Series II and this morning, out of the blue, I turned the key and got "click, click, click". I tried three or four times. Stopped, was about to call AAA......I gave it one last shot and it started up. The battery was/is the issue because my A/C temp read-out had changed from F to Celsius.

I drive the car 20 minutes to work. Stop, try to restart and "click, click, click,...100% dead. Being that the battery didn't charge up at all after 20 minutes do I also have an alternator problem? Or, could it strictly be the battery? Sorry for such a rookie question, but I'm not a auto guy whatsoever.

If I don't want to go to the dealer.........what are the parameters I should look for in a new battery (cranking amps, etc.)? Please help.

Thanks!

Go to your local auto parts store and get your battery and alt tested for free.
Your alt needs to test between 13.6-14.4. If you buy a battery I'd go with 800cca or more.

sounds more like a connection issue to me. i would check your ground connection to the vehicle, and clean up the connectors on the battery before i started replacing things.
and as said above, get them tested.
