Default What is this part?

Hey everyone. I’m in the middle of a head gasket job so I’m upgrading & replacing a few pets while everything is disconnected.

can someone tell me what part this is? Looks like the whole component is rusted pretty bad. Is that normal? Should I replace?

also - is there anything else I should look at while I have half the engine out of the truck?

D1 - top of steering box and/or power steering hoses - appears to be just surface rust on the steering box - hoses don't look like they are leaking but are pretty old

No, you would not replace steering gearbox because it has surface rust.

Yea I'm replacing a good bit of hoses right now but I may save these for another time.
