Default What is the purpose of the Yellow "Float Valve" inside the windshield washer tank?

On my recently purchased 2001 Discovery 2 SE, I was filling up the windshield washer resevior tank and found a long yellow sponge-like strip in the tank. I thought it was some toy someone dropped into the tank but, a search on the web took me to a parts breakdown of the washer tank and the yellow object is called a "float valve", See part list #11 on the attachment. Part Number: DMV100020 .

What the heck is this for?

It's just a windscreen washer fluid level indicator. Fill the reservoir up and watch it float up.....it's LR magic.
