Default What size wheels and tires?

Ok here is the deal. I have an 04 disco, stock but sits at a good height. I have plenty of tire clearance. It is very important that I park in my garage at my house. If I lift it I am not sure it will fit. I will not plan on doing much off-roading but will everynow and then and want to be equiped to do mild trails. Another choice i have is to get smaller than the now 18" wheels and bigger cheaper A/T tire, if I go this route what wheels do you consider and what size tire for stock suspension?

thanks guys

Now I have an 2000 slightly different animal and went from the 18 to stock 16 Disco wheels. You can with a 245 75 16 with no problems or trimming i told, I went with a 235 70 16 as there was only a .03 difference in the speedometer. and they were on clearance so I save $80 a tire.

Are the stock 16" wheels hard to find?

They are actually very easy to find and were the most common rims on the Discos. You can find them on ebay, places that specialize on used Land Rover parts, and craigslist.

Ok guys, Picking up a set of 5-spoke 16" disco wheels. Now it is tire time. I have not decided on getting a lift or not but may depending if I can still fit in the garage or not. Looks like I have just about 4-5" of clearance now from the top of the rover to the garage opening. If i lift is 2" and go with some 245/75/16 not sure if I would clear. If I did not lift it should I just go with 235/70/16? I need advise please. thanks!

The stock size for a 16" rim is 255/65R16. The 8 inch wide rim is just a little much for the 235 tire that came on the D1. They are both about the same size. The speedo is off in most disco's anyway.

I'm told you can go with the 245/75/16 with no lift and the bigger sidewall will give you a much better ride than the 255/65/16. I went with the 235/70/16 to keep the speedo correct and they were clearanced tires, if iwere paying full price i would have gone with the 245's. I will say going from the 55x18 and the 70x16 there is world of difference in the ride.

What do you use the truck for, do any wheeling, do you mind loosing a little MPG with larger tires?
You can go to a 265 with a 2" lift and still fit in most garages or stay stock with the tired suspension and go with a 245/75/16 and no trimming.

I drive the truck everyday Mike. I would like to start going wheeling in it probably about once a month or so. I do not mind loosing a little MPG, If I go on long trips with it I will plan on keeping the stock 18" wheels so I can swap them back on. I founs some killer deals on 245/75/16. Would these be ideal tires for a 2" lift as well as stock suspension? O yea I cannot decide on what lift to go with if I go that rout and can fit in my garage.
