Default What is this thing?

I did some work and exploration under the hood. Of my "new" Disco 2 today and had about 8 questions to ask. Between Google and head-scratching I answered all but 1. So here goes : What is this thing?

It is on the same bracket as the Cruise control vacuum servo. There is one hose connected to it and (as far as I could tell) nothing else. Hard to tell how this could possibly be useful!

Here's another pick of the hose showing where it disappears from view behind engine; the mystery thingamajig is in the lower left.

Thanks for your help!

2000 Discovery 2, 4.0 V8. Had charcoal canister and SAI system once upon a time, but PO deleted both.

Evap canister vent solenoid or CVS. It's part of the Engine Management System partly for fuel leak detection system.
