Default what is..."the tick"

Im a little confused about this tick. I've read all these recent threads about it and I just don't fully understand, are we talking about a tick after the engine is heated up and then you turn it off? I have this tick in my d2. Or, when the engine is cold and you start it up there is a tick accompanied by white smoke out from the exuast? Mine also does this then goes away when the engine heats up. Can someone please explain what the tick is?

Usually the tick most people complain about does the opposite... it is whisper quite when cold, and then comes when the engine warms up. Since yours does the opposite, I'd wonder about things like a sticky lifter or maybe an exhaust leak. The cats can rattle when they start to go bad too.

White smoke doesn't sound good... but it might just be condensation. We have a huge center muffler and it can hold quite a bit of water.

That makes alot of since, I do have an exhaust leak. The white smoke is mainly when its cold so I bet it is just condensation.
