Does the VT in you name indicate you are in Vermont?

I'd love to go that route.. But my girlfriend is already going to kill me with all the rides to work I've been bumming.. I can't imagine another couple of weeks

The other issue is, what if it's not gaskets? If it's a bad block then I'm out even more money. I'll probably just sell it locally as a parts car

Vermont for now, but a Virginia native. Went to UVA though, looks like we may have some differences to discuss..

I do understand the risk of fixing one thing and finding out the problem is worse than you though. Have you (or do you have time to) gotten (get) a second opinion to see if the problem is more or less serious than you were told by the first mechanic?

Good luck with whatever you decide. If you end up parting it out, start getting some boxes and shipping supplies ready, there are plenty of folks here that will take your parts!

I'd say tear the engine down yourself to see if it is a dropped liner. That way if you are going to part it out, it's already apart. I'll bet money that it is not a dropped liner and that the shop you had the h/g done at did not properly torque the bolts. That was the case when I bought mine, the indy shop gave up on doing the third torque sequence.
