What's the consensus choice for high mileage tranny fluid?
I'm gonna be doing a filter and fluid change next week, and wanted to know what the forum's choice is for a high mileage tranny fluid? I was gonna go with this
but wasn't sure if there was a better choice. I also plan on using some Lucas transmission additive as well. Any help is appreciated.
Vavoline makes a great High Mileage ATF. If you fluid is brownish or smells burned do 2 drain and refills in a row after letting it idle for a couple of minutes in between changes and consider a bottle of Lucas Tranny additive on the last refill.
By the wayif you need to do it twice then buy 11 quqrts of ATF and a bottle of Lucas.

I haven't looked into this too hard on the Rover yet but what about a complete flush in the driveway. I have done this on Land cruisers and my Toyota motorhome.
-Drain and replace filter
-Put it back together
-Fill trans back up
-disconnect return line from trans cooler somewhere(this is the part I'm not sure about on a Rover)
-Have someone start the engine
-let the pump pump out about one to two quarts into a container. (I use a clear bottle with a mark at 2 quarts.
-Stop engine and refill trans with the 2 qts you just pumped out.
-Repeat this process until clean fluid is coming out of the return line or you have replaced the total amount the trans holds according to RAVE. Or both!
I have done this with great success in the past. It is a 100% passive flush!
The only thing I'm unsure of is where to disconnect the return line. I'm planning to do this on mine soon if its feasible.

One more thing. My older Toyota's used DEX 2 or 3. when I did this flush I used the new spec DEX 6. Shifting was smoother and it is a better product. It is synthetic. I use the Walmart brand at $4.25 a quart then do a drain and fill each spring with the same.
just my 2 cents
