Default What's wrong with my Disco??

1999 Disco 2.

When I drive and there are bumps or uneven pavement, the truck feels like is gonna flip over.
When I turn left from a stop, after the turn, the steering wheel comes back by itself from the turn.
But when I turn right, it does not come back.

when I go on a bump, the 3 lights come up. Traction, ABS, and the other one.

It is hard to brake, and when I am braking and hit a bump, the pedal vibrates.

Please help...

So, have you ever crawled under your truck to see what is warn or loose? How many miles on it, has the suspension ever been replace, how about the steering stabilizer?

Hey Mike,

Truck has 130,000 I did replace the "shock" that has on the front sideways. (dont know if that is the steering stabilizer) dont remember what is called.

I got the truck 2 yrs ago and it had not given me any suspension problems so I have not replace any other parts.

abs amigo or another such device, that will pull abs codes from your truck is needed. a standard code reader will not do. your traction control is acting up in the bump + brake vibration scenario.
I would be getting my abs codes read and pulling my brakes off looking for issues with caliper seizure or anything else obvious.

flip over feeling.... as mentioned above..check out suspension. sounds like you are bouncing around like richard simmons. worn shock? springs? ace roll bar or sway links good? damper?

If your shocks are black then you have the original suspension/shocks and that along with some springs will make a huge difference.By the way, how mechanical are you?

Thanks guys.

Mike, I can pretty much do anything under the hood. I am bad with names of parts because I know them in Spanish :-)

I guess I'm gonna start by replacing shocks.

Anything else Mike?

Dusty, Thanks. I guess I have to get those ABS codes read.

Might I suggest you get the ABS first of all and then all the codes read and cleared afterwards. That'll give you a starting point. Fix the codes related to the traction control, ABS and HDC and then run/use the truck and then reread the codes. If they reappear they will need fixing in most cases. It's a process of elimination.

Mike, FWIW, the replacement Monroe shocks (OESpectrum) are also black in color, with minimal other marking or labeling on them.

Check out the panhard bearings. These are really just rubber inserts. Put in Poly as the oil leaks decompose the rubber ones.

Jack the truck up and try to pull all the steering linkages.
You got something loose under there!
