Default Wheel bearing replacement

When I knocked off the wheel hub the half shaft came with a little.
No oil came out so should I just push it back or is there a prcedure to go through before i replace the hub?
Does the bolts o the hub hole the half shaft in place?.
Thanks
Micko

The hub and shaft will separate with a little force. Gently but firmly knock around the hub with a rubber mallet to break up the rust, dirt/grime - it will separate.

I had to use a three arm puller to get mine to separate, but what Coors says is right they come apart and you will eventually, gently, put the half shaft back in before you tighten the hub. When it meets resistance you will move it around until it gently slides back into the gears.

Unless I am misremembering, the half shaft is just held in by its own splines and the castle nut.

There is a specific kind of loctite that can be used in the splines. I think it is green. I didn't use it... I was not reading instructions those days and used GREASE on them. No ill effects as of a couple of years later.

Never use Loctite to seal the inner shaft splines as they need to move in and out with expansion and contraction. On the outer splines no problems.

Oh sorry. I did mean the outer splines. In fact, when I took mine off I re used my half shafts and I had to tediously, carefully, scrape off all of the old loctite or whatever it was (after 15 years it looked like some sort of lacquer).
