Wheels. Are we alone?
To the o.p.: there are so many different factory wheels for the D2/P38. Start there.
5x120 isn’t an uncommon bolt pattern, it’s the hub centric part that makes a lot of wheels not work. I have an aftermarket set of American Racing Alloy wheels and they fit fine without any issues using new lug nuts of coarse. Some people report wobbles without hub centric rings, but I’ve never had that issue on a P38/D2 with aftermarket wheels.
BMW X5 wheels will go on a P38/D2.

Nope, BMW, VW and others use the same PCD bolt pattern as D2's.
I don't quite understand why so many D2 owners change their LR wheels for tacky looking (price is irrelevant) aftermarket wheels when the D2 range is so huge in recommended sizes. IMHO I would stick with LR wheels be they alloys or steel.
You won't get any more tire clearance with bigger tires by moving the wheel out because you'll interfere with the fender. I'm running 285/75r16s and if I moved them out even 1/4” I'd have to roll the fenders.
I kind of agree with you but I think the Terrafirma black or anthracite alloy rims look nice on a Disco.
I had bad luck with steel wheels and wanted a wheel that allows me to service the axles with the wheels on(D1). The TF anthracite RVS wheels are just that. Plus they're beadlock-able which is nice, but they hold a bead better than most Rover wheels anyways.
