Head gaskets being most common means a lot of people get rid of the truck when they find out it's going to cost over $2000 to have them done at the dealer. It's something you only want to do once. Chances are you'll need to replace them and to keep them in good shape flush the coolant (DexCool the orange stuff) every 2 years. It's the acid that forms over time that breaks down the gaskets, and most people don't have that done.

What are the benefits of using a timing chain vs belt?

I do know that when going through water my belt will begin to slip, do chains do this?
