Default Whining drivetrain when in gear and holding or accelerating...

My '02 II has developed or worsened a whine in the drivetrain when holding steady speed or accelerating that seemed to be noticeable at speeds over 30 mph or so. It seems especially loud at 72mph+ under acceleration. High-pitched whine. Not piercing but as if you whistled a high note.

Only happens in gear. just now changed both front/rear diff fluids, no change. it's not incredibly bad but a little concerning at this point.

thank you,
Brian

Did you have this noise before the drive shaft replacement? Have you checked and changed your t/case fluid and how often do you grease your u-joints?

Yeah, transfer case and tranny are next. Diffs seemed easiest to accomplish during the week since wifey likes the help tending to the kids. I'll tackle the others this weekend and report back with my findings. that's how I/We all learn!

Thanks y'all

sorry, have only been able to do the diffs and xfer case thusfar with no change in noise. tranny fluid gets done tomorrow...will post results (please, let there be results!)

fyi, i've lubed all zerks on front and rear driveshaft...still have the high-pitched whine that really only seems to show up at 35-40mph and stays getting even worse at 75mph (unless my mind is playing tricks on me).
