Whining Noise...2004 Land Rover Discovery SE
Hi guys! New to the forum and Land Rovers. Looking at purchasing my first possibly. Found a guy selling one making this whining noise while parked. Video is attached of the noise and he says it’s about as loud as a washing machine. He’s asking $1500 for it because he doesn’t want to deal with it. I’m wondering if it’s a good deal and something I could fix on my own (some mechanical skills if I have a YouTube video to follow). Thanks for any advice.

Sounds like an air leak.
As the sound didn't get louder, or seem to speed up with the rpms when the truck was revved. If it had have, I would say an accessory bearing(ps, alternator, ac, etc).
Since it momentarily quit when it was revved, also makes me think air leak.
An air leak anywhere past the throttle body(like the intake manifold)will also lean out the air/fuel ratio, and ruin an engine.
But, back to an accessory bearing making the noise, if you rev it up slower, does the whine increase with it?
Take the belt off and start and run it for a minute.
If no noise, you have your answer, it's an accessory bearing.
If not, possible air leak.
