Whining power steering
Apologies for going over things already covered in previous posts but I've hit a wall on this one. The wife said her truck (2002, 103K miles) was making a horrible whining noise a few weeks back for a couple of minutes after starting. I looked at it and it got worse when turning the steering wheel so it wasn't a slipping belt. I checked the reservoir, the fluid level was very low. I topped it up, bled the system as per the Rave instructions and it still made the noise. I guess the pump had gone bad when running dry. The pipes all looked good.
I replaced the pump last week and the noise disappeared. This morning when I started the truck it made the noise again. The reservoir fluid was between the lines but is it possible air is getting into the pump from somewhere or what could cause the noise?
I'd appreciate any ideas or tips on this problem especially as I need the truck now Cleveland has just been dumped on by the winter snow storms.
Thanks

I have a similar problem after a pump replacement. I was thinking about draining the Landrover brand fluid and replacing with Lucus synthetic to see if I can quiet it up. Has anyone had any success with using Lucus to correct the noise issue?
