That noise is loud.
Has nothing to do with the transmission as it does not change in pitch with gear changes.
In neutral you have no load on the gears.
You may want to go to the top of a huge hill and put the diff into N and the trans into N and see if it goes away.
Or, put the Diff in N - then the transmission in D and take it up to 2,000 rpm for a sec and see if the noise is there.
I would check the transmission mounts.
One may have gone bad and you have metal to metal contact with transmission to frame.
That is probably all it is.

Transfer Case drained and refilled - CHECK
Rear Diff drained and refilled - CHECK
Front Diff drained and refilled - CHECK
Transmission mounts are not bad, in really good shape actually.
Still the same whining.
I must admit that I have never had the thing in LOW. Following the instructions on the console, I put it in neutral, while running, and tried to shift into L.
Wont budge. Tried wiggling, pushing, pulling, little bit more pressure. Nada. Even tried that while coasting at about 2-3mph....
Am I missing a trick here?
Side note: When the transfer case gave me grief the first time (months ago) it took about 15 miles before it 'smoothed' out and then its been fine ever since.
After a refill on all 3 of those, would it be acceptable to drive it a bit and see? Or should the change be fairly instantaneous?

12 miles later and it is still whining, but running and driving perfect. Its a good thing I have the S500 as a backup vehicle.
The only thing I have not checked, that could be a culprit, is the transmission itself....I understand its a sealed unit (PITA) and there are no apparent leaks from the torque converter, etc.
This can't be a new problem....anyone?

I have a 2000 disco 2 that has a whine only when I let off the accelerator. I have a filter kit on the way, so I've stopped driving it until I can drain fluid and install the new oil and filter. Under power, my disco has a very quiet whine. Take your foot off the accelerator and it has a louder whine.
