I get a whirring sound on initial acceleration, it sounds like it is coming from one of the belt driven elements, my friends has a similar sound but not quite as loud, it seems to peeter out above 2000 RPM. Any thoughts?

Also my brake pedal travel is quite long on the first push and then is normal and much more responsive on the second pump! Fluid level is ok and brakes are only 15k old.

 

same sound on mine, diagnosed it as the tensioner pulley. good idea to change tensioner, idler pulley and belt at same time. waiting for mine to arrive.

Brake pedal- i have read on hear that brakes are a little more sensitive than many other trucks (primarily american). I have felt same on mine. Try a good brake bleed with syntheic fluid

 

Sounds like air is leaking into the braking system somehow. I don't know too much about what parts of the Disco brake system are more succeptible to failure than others, but it definately seems like air in the system. Have you had your brakes done recently? Bleed 'em and report back. Also check to see if the cap on your brake fluid resivoir is securely tightened.

By the way.....when Chuck Norris does a push-up, he doesn't push himself up. He pushes the world down!

 

Double-check the fan clutch. Just spin the fan and it should spin freely with some resistance. If it is tight, replace. Mine was stuck (shot). Autozone -> $150 and they had the tool to change it.
