Default Whirring/Whining sound

Hey guys,

Just got a new Disco this weekend. Feels good to be back...this one seems in good shape but has a slight whirring and whining sound. I was going through all the normal services and started with the Diffs and TC. When i drained the Diffs, all was good. When i did the TC, its was Dark and frothy (bubbles, looked like a shaken bottle of Coke). there was hardly any metal on the plug so hoping its nothing but is that something that i need to be concerned with?

Also, Checked all the pulleys because there is a whine coming from somewhere. Outside of trying to take the belt off while the truck is running as some have suggested, is there a less dangerous way to check the power steering pump?

Thanks

the secondary air pump has been said to make a wirring/winning noise, it is located under the hood on the passenger side fire wall.
You TC case should not be dark and frothy, dark is a sign of old fluid and frothy is a sign of being over filled.

Yard stick to your ear and the suspect pump or pulley bracket keeps dreadlocks away from the fast moving belt. Frothy could also be a sign of previous owner adding too much Lucas oil treatment, or you could have water from the vent tube being blocked and not allowing condensation to vent.

thanks Guys...

On the whining, i thought originally it was the SAI but it seems to be consistent with the engine RPM's and never stops, just changes in pitch. I will try the yardstick, i'll borrow it from my mom, she prob has a couple lying around she used to smack me with...

On the TC, since i drained it and put fresh fluid in there do i need to do another change in a 1,000 miles or just leave it until the next change?

Thanks as always

I have the same problem..
I replaced the power steering pump last year and it still whines.

I found the whine stops when you loosen the belt.

Here is how I tested it.

If you have ACE it could be the ACE pump. Mine whines a small bit, flushed it, no change.

Frothy xcase means previous owner prob had a little fun with it in the mud flush everything out real good, reads like your already doing that.
