Default Whistling while Accelerating

My 2002 Disco 2 just started 'whistling' when I am accelerating between 1500 and 2000 rpm. If I let off the accelerator the sound stops and it only makes the sound in that rpm range.

Help?

Might need to be more descriptive, or have a passenger take a video while driving and post it here.

Where is the sound coming from?

Whistling is usually associated with a vacuum leak under the hood, but high pitched whining that builds in frequency with vehicle speed and goes away when let off gas is frequently drive line (transfer case, etc.). One clever tech suggested disconnect the rubber hose from air filter, and insert a clean oil filter or similar sized can. The increased vacuum makes the whistle louder and easier to find. Another point would be that a vac leak will usually leak even when parked, at the engine speed noticed while underway. Obviuosly drive train gremlins are quiet when parked (and let's not wake them up!)

I have a whining at low revs as soon as the car is started. What do I check (it comes from near where the air filter is located.

That may be the Secondary Air Injection (SAI) pump, which is electric, comes on at certain cold temps to reduce two minutes of possible pollution. Has a small filter on it to change. Will eventually make noise like a hair dryer, then die. Here's some pages from the RVE, more in the "emmissions" section of the workshop manual. That system can be one source of the "tick" noise.

Also attached is picture of the plug that powers the pump, can be disabled to test for that noise, may set a code.

The SAI pump would come on at a cold start, but would not repeat a few minutes later after warm up and restart. It needs engine to have cooled off for a period of time.

Hey I Have a whistle issue at around 70mph, It gets louder while accelerating and gets quiet as I let off the gas but above 70 it always seems to be there. I checekd the vaccum lines in the engine compartment and everything seems good, no cracked or dry lines. It seems to be coming from the passenger side behind the dash. I revved the engine in neutral and could not reproduce the noise. Does anyone have any ideas? oh yeah, 2001 disco,4.0- 80,000mi

Default I have the same issue

BlizzardBella,
I have a 2003 discovery SE7, I have the same issue, the vehicle whistles when under acceleration. It does not whistle when I lift off the accelerator. Please tell me if you ever resolved your issue and if so what was the result? Thx

For those interested, I took the 2003 Land Rover discovery to rover doctor in Martinez California. He diagnosed the whining as the U joints in the front driveshaft. The original equipment you joints do not come with grease fittings. He installed a new driveshaft with greaseable U joints for $500 including parts and labor. Also, it fixed the "clunking, jerking" that I was feeling when the transmission was under load.

I have experienced a whistle from the exhaust on a D2 TD5 diesel after fitting a decat pipe and EGR blank plate but I haven't ever experienced it on the D2 4.0 V8 when I owned one.

Check the lines connected to the back of the throttlebody, one has a funky plastic type disc seal thing that likes to sing when not seated.
