Default ? why can I buy a fuel filter but need to replace the fuel pump?

I thought I would go ahead and replace the fuel filter on my 02 disco and found many for like $12 and up but after looking up info on its location I am finding that the filter is part of the pump and if the filter is needing to be replaced you have to replace the pump. My question is why is there a filter sold separately?

There is NO replaceable fuel filter on the DII, there is a sock filter on the fuel pump, just like all electric fuel pumps, that technically can be replaced but it lasts the life of the pump.

They sell the fuel filter because the are hoping you will buy it and then not return it.
They also sell a power steering fluid filter.

Yup, they do. I installed one of these on my wife's '97 when I replaced the pump and box.

Cleanable magnetic element.
