needed a bigger back seat, awd and a low purchase price. got a 97 D1, now the wife's mountaineer has been retired (too may problems) and she has a Disco to drive. She likes that people get out of her way now...

With the headliner sagging, it's kind of like driving a fort!

1. Jeep pissed me off

2. I wanted to spend 40k on a 2003 D2

3. Gluten for punishment - I just can not wait for a service engine soon light to come on and I luv oil drips on my driveway.

I had a RR Classic (94) that I drove to 368K and I wanted to get back to a LR. My budget couldn't afford a Defender, H1 or even a decent Wrangler. Family loves it...when it's working.

I needed a safe, relatively reliably, 4x4 daily driver. An 03 Disco was cheap and looked cool. I had no idea what I was getting into.

Honestly, until the HG and lifters went I had only put like $100 into repairs. I'll get her back in a few days with new HG, Rhoads Lifters, a high torque cam, ford injectors, and a port and polish. I suspect it will be relatively reliable once again.

I bought mine because it was at my price point,k and thought it was a really cool vehicle when driving it. I had had Jeeps in the past and I just liked the Land Rover much better.

We just kind of fell into both of our D2's... Love the '99 and we'll keep it when we buy newer daily drivers. Can't stand the '04 my wife drives and it'll be gone when we buy her something new. I know the '04's are sought after for a number of reasons, but I just don't think it feels as "solid" as the '99. I can't really explain it.

I bought mine because I'm a patriotic masochist with too much money and too much free time.

I got mine because...

- Its better for driving off road and around town than my truck was. Actually better in every way other than reliability and cargo capacity.

- Its one of my all time favorite vehicles in terms of style. It isn't overloaded with chrome and looks a lot cleaner than other SUVs. Overall it just has nice lines and is just a really cool vehicle in general.

- The reason I got the Disco I have is because it was fairly cheap since it needed head gaskets from the start. Since that is a common issue I figured it would be best to only do it upfront. The truck was really clean otherwise.
