Oysterhead, did you purchase and install the 3" OME lift you posted the link for? If so what did you think?

If going to a 3" lift, consider the RTE, it is not nearly as hard riding as the 3" OME. If you go to a 3", consider buying your OME shocks from Bill Davis at Great Basins Rovers in Utah, he has them made longer for the taller lifts.

still haven't done it, but am gearing up to the pull the trigger.

i've run across many posts of people running 3" lifts without geometry issues, and am thinking i'll go 3" instead of 2".

i'm going to follow Mike's tip and cost RTE 3" springs with extra long OME shocks.

If you are worried about the stiffness of the ride, why not go with just the 2 inch coils and then 1 inch spacers. It will give you the height that you are looking for and the softer ride. As far as making it fit into the garage if it is close.... just pull in really fast the first time and it will work itself out.

My truck sits 7ft 6in high now with my 3in lift + tires + SD rack - just an FYI. It will not go into my garage or a parking ramp but it will go thru all of the fast food drive thru's around here and the bank I go to.

Without a winch/bumper its more like 4in+ in the front and 3in+ in the back.

I personally don't think it "beats you to death" like some guys have posted, but I am 27 and I believe they are more like 50-60+ years old. I am sure if I was twice my age it would be rough riding.

I will be doing 2in longer brake lines, ABS extensions, corrected radius arms, minimal wheel spacers, and removing the sway bars.

i'm wondering if there would be any difference in off-road performance (articulation, etc.) in the two OME options:

1) 2" medium duty lift with 1" spacers
2) 3" HD lift

I would like to hear peoples thoughts on this too. I highly doubt there is anyone who has actually had both setups, but there should be people with an opinion on the matter.

i decided to stick to a 2" OME with heavy duty springs. Had a great conversation with Great Basin Rovers. Those people are awesome.

The RTE springs are really >3.5" on an unloaded Disco. That means lots of other mods needed.

FYI, the extended OME shocks are only for D1s. They hope to have a D2 version later this year.

One thing...they said a 2" OME lift is really only 1.67", and recommended adding 1/2" spacers. That's contrary to what I've heard and what Lucky8 said.

I believe that they are right, when talking about the measurements from a brand new discovery. However, when talking about discos with 50,000-150,000 miles on them you are talking about a truck that is sagging 0.5-1.5in.

So if (using extremes) your truck had 200,000 and is sagging 1.5in and you put on a 2in OME lift you would see about 3in lift over your current stance. Now if you bought your disco in 2004 and put a 2in OME lift on it the next day you would probably barely see 1.5in lift over your stock height.

Also remember that there are several different springs that can be used in several different combination's for a D2. A good place to read and learn about the springs is: http://www.expeditionexchange.com/ome/indexsprings.php.

From what I understand OME makes 4 different springs that fit the front and 3 different springs that fit the back, so when we talk about a "2in OME lift" we should really talk about what springs (part #'s) we are talking about.

For example I used 751's in the front and 763 in the rear and with 100k miles on my truck I got 3.25in in the back and 4in in the front (before my winch/bumper goes on).

I was under the impression they made the extended shocks for the D2 as well, good to know...

i pulled the trigger today! go big or go home.

751s in the front. 762s + 1" spacer in rear.

60024F/60025R shocks.

tomorrow, i'm meeting a guy on craigslist to get some 265/75/16 Goodyear Wrangler Authority's. Supposedly the Authority is a WalMart A/T special, but they have less then 500 miles on 'em for half the WalMart price, so be it!
