@redwhitekat I do not think there is any fixing of the MPG, they are big heavy trucks with a very old engine design

If the ones I find weren’t a thousand miles away I would buy them all and have some sweet yard art. Better than the crusher.

Rescuing Rovers became my hobby four years ago. I have done 12 so far. I get them just before they are headed to the scrapyard. I don't fool with the rusted frames, although some of the low mile ones from the northeast are tempting. Too much work for the frame swap. I am lucky in that I live in the southeast where rust on the frames are uncommon. I also skip the ones over 150k, there just is limited resale demand due to people being afraid of the engines at high miles. My two keepers have 220 and 240+. I like working on them, people like buying them if they are fully sorted. I have seen some good ones that deserve to be rescued in other parts of the country, but shipping is just too much. $600/k miles just makes it uneconomical. Gonna try to do 4-8 this year. I have also started grabbing the engines out of the LKQ yards before they get crushed, at some point people are going to need them. The LS swap is interesting, but too expensive for all but the true believers.

If you know of one deserving rescuing, hit me up.

Lived in Greer from 06-16, live in Lynchburg VA now. Both kids are at USC in Columbia and in-laws are in Pickens. Both nephews have Discos, a 98 and 01 with ACE.

Because these "need head gaskets" discoveries can easily become "need engine rebuild / replacement" super quick.

I have only had 1 that needed an engine once I got it apart, but then I don't buy the ones with rods sticking through the pans or with mileage over 180k
