Default Why Wix 51515?

I see that a lot of people use the Wix 51515 filter. The Wix website says the part number should be 51068. Just wondering why folks go with the 51515 instead?

Is that the really big one? On a thread a while back a Wix engineer claimed that the big one was not a good idea because the pressure required to open a valve on the filter was too high.

I go with the one Wix recommends for what it’s worth.

FRAM PH8A vs PH16 basically. Older RRC's used the larger PH8A size filter. Then later models D1/D2 switched over to the smaller PH16 size filter. I myself run the K&N HP3001 or Mobil1 M301

***Only using FRAM P/N's for reference as I do not like or use their filters***

Best why do you use the 301 instead of the “recommended” 204?

Just more filter area. I run oversize filters on pretty well everything.

Yep the PH8A is larger than the PH16 (or M301 vs M204). I've been running the larger filter since the RRC days.

Interesting - any thoughts on what @greisinb quoted from a Wix engineer? "Wix engineer claimed that the big one was not a good idea because the pressure required to open a valve on the filter was too high."

I'm all for better, but also curious about how folks are ok with this approach when the filter manufacturer designs and recommends a different solution. Not looking to start a flame war here - just interested in understanding the rationale.

Does the 301 have the same specs (as OEM size filter) for threads, diameter, bypass valve pressure?
