Default Wife will have my D2 for 4 months without me to help

Hello everybody. First a little background:

I’m currently stationed in Germany, but returning in about a month to the US. I bought a ‘00 D2 about 8-9 months ago to have once my wife and I return. I’ve ordered quite a bit of parts to hopefully prevent any major mishaps while I’m away at school for about 4 months. My wife will be driving the rover until her van arrives by boat, maybe around the end of October.

Ive got the followed ready to install:

- 180* OE stat
- All new hoses
- New water pump
- New fan clutch
- New overflow tank and cap
- Oil filter
- Air filter
- Serp belt
- New greaseable front DS
- Trans, Tcase and Diff Service parts
- New spark plugs

The tires seem to be in decent shape, my sister put a new battery in a couple weeks ago, and the brakes seem to be in good shape.

I also got a sandwich plate and oil pressure gauge, and have a Scan gauge that will both be set to alarm her if she needs to stop driving.

Is there anything else I should plan to do before I leave for school? My wife’s brother is pretty handy and could handle minor issues while I’m gone, but the idea is that it’ll be good to go for her until I get back or the van shows up.

I appreciate any any advice y’all can offer, and can’t wait to start working on this thing.

Edit: No idea whether the HG’s have been done, but right now there’s no sign of HG damage. It’s got about 138k on it. I’m hoping they’ve been done already. Rover was purchased from an Indy shop with a good reputation. They said the HGs were done by them, but who knows.

I’d recommend a scangauge, and telling her not to drive over 216 f.

After hoses, rent the pressure tester from autozone and make sure it holds 20psi for 15 minutes. This will identify leaks and confirm the head gasket is ok.

Yes sir, scan gauge is already in the truck. I just need to set the alarm for her.

Thanks for the tip on the pressure gauge, I’ll look into that.

Might as well do the radiator so the cooling system is completely replaced.

Good point. Someone linked a $60 eBay radiator the other day. Anybody see an issue running one of those?

Also leave her the local LR garage telephone and email number in case of any unforeseen mishaps and the area breakdown service.

I got one this week.
Looks identical to stock, but weighs alot less.
It fit perfect, the coolant system is full, and no leaks.
Unfortunately, I have to take my engine back out, so it'll be a while before I have any info on how the radiator performs.
The radiator appears to be quality made, and for $60, so far so good.

Good point. Our insurance has roadside assistance and towing so we’re covered there. There’s quite a few indy shops in town - Anybody have a recommendation in North Texas?

Awesome to hear. I’ll add one to my list.
